don't give up (cos u are loved)

Beautiful song. Magnetic voice. Just like to go to sweet dreams hearing it or take a rest on the strong shoulders.

Had my hair shampoo, cut, permed & colour treated by George. Over 15 years. Very reliable. Is he gay? Suspicious.

Even if no one loves me, I will certainly love myself and very very much. No neglect, no doubt.

Had congee & wonton noodles with Porpor at Chee Kee, Telford Gardens. Sidewalk was reduced in size. The cute hello kitty etc shop gone.

I missed the days when the 2 girls would ask me to bring them down to have a walk and buy them some tiny things, like a pencil or a ruler or a soft toy or just browsing around.

Life is short. I must treasure.

Dinner with Porpor, Mike & Jeff at Kai Tin. Then Park & Shop. The warmest moments one could have. Imagine Jeff will grow into a tall man and could hardly spare me his Sunday evenings.

Van has returned. I have bought 3 cushions and golden cases and 4 red thin seating cushions for chairs.

sunday - marga is much better

Pingpong in Victoria Park.

Sushi at Causeway Bay. Sogo, Diane Freis. Lilly.

I bought a shawl. I bought a dress with lilies in orange colour, a top of black & white and a set b/w dress + a black lacy cardigan.

I bought an evening bag for Marga as gift - for her use at the wedding party.

Flora.

Dinner at Porpor's home and then we went to Marga's home - May will wear the green dress with ribbons.

Talked to Lorraine by IDD. She will have dinner with her guest on Tuesday.

Black Rainstorm

Waken up by thunders at 6 am. That is the beginning of my holidays.

Luckily, both Porpor & I got the cheungsams well fit. We are satisfied.

I had facial treatment. See if I can have my hair permed tomorrow.

Had tea at Pokka Cafe. Roast beef/soba salad. Very yummy sauce. Fresh ingredients. Much tempted to drink the Blue Mountain No.1 coffee. Eventually, I gave up cos it was too expensive. $68 + 10%.

Still lingering on my mind.

a lonesome Friday night

Saw Winston in the morning. He is going to leave soon. We have known each eather for over 35 years. His wife will celebrate her brithday in mid June. So he cannot attend the party. Heavy rain during noon time. Met Jane who taught me putonghua many years ago.

A cheerful luncheon gathering.

Dinner at home with Nita. What a lonesome evening. The sky was so dark.

Talked to Marga over phone. She had her stomach test. Good news is no tumour. The bad thing about it must be the pain and anxieties going through the process.

Pa is in Haven of Hope being examined on his breath during sleep.

Winston thinks he has finished his work for the whole life. He said he would not fear death if it is instant. He just fears old age, sickness and sufferings. He will see me and treat me a meal after I resume work.

jumping from height

A staff jumped one floor down and hurt herself. She is now in hospital receiving treatment.

Marga talked to me over the phone after my work. She tel me yesterday but I was too busy. She began to sound normal though with lots of bad feelings retained.

Marga thinks I am very very strong.

If I could ever choose, I would like to be a spoilt little woman. Yet, the Supreme Being prefers me not.

Van & A are happy together. Both of them are lucky enough to have loving Moms forever supporting them.

Could not get hold of Min.

Arthur will bring us to Summer Palace tomorrow. That is a piece of good news for me. I enjoy the rain when it rains. I enjoy the sunhine when the sun shines.

Happiness is such a mystery. Can we touch it? Can we find it? Can we retain it?

i am much energized

Lots of pressure. However, I am much energized.

Sunday - pingpong. Dong Dynasty in Miramar Hotel for lunch with Paus. Banquet dress fitting - silver evening gown. Kevin had a suit with shirts. Bone-setter & dinner at Porpor's house. We all encouraged Marga.

Monday - bought a box of roast chicken rice with gravy/vege and went to Deneb's office. Very enjoyable company. She showed me the photos she took in Vietnam and Nagoya. 2 years' anniversary. A reunion dinner fixed on 27/6. Pastries from Starbucks. Dinner at Outback with Van. A & Van bought some furniture from IKEA, Causeway Bay.

Tuesday - the whole day for one project. Packed lunch and ate in canteen with everybody. Talked to D about her father. We all have our downs.

Wednesday - the 2nd day of the project. Intervening meetings on various subjects. Real trying. But I am glad that I can manage. That is a blessing. Lunch with the usual group at Wanchai. Dinner with Ag at ZEN. Never ending conversations. Both of us are proud to have nice friends around.

Prayer: - Let me remain loving and generous and smiling, rain or shine. May Van have a happy marriage. May Min have attainments in her studies. May all those around me are healthy and peaceful. May Sichuan quake victims rebuild their souls and homes quickly.

gifted Josh

Magnetic bass voice. I will look for "Noel".

Organic Farm in Hok Tau Wai, Fanling. And Lavender Garden next to it. BBQ lunch.

I belong more to the city. I prefer hygienic toilets and I am quite scared by mosquitoes and flies.

Drinks at Festival Walk - Dan Ryan & Queen's are my favourites.

Agnes bought a Georg Jensen pin. Silver set with a garnet in the shape of a flower. Very pretty.

I like peppermint tea & camomile tea with honey. Iced lemon tea, too.

Josh Groban & Connie Talbot

Life is full of mishaps and mistakes. Life is full of fun and happiness. If your net sum is on the positive side, you are lucky.

Sometimes, it just depends on how you weigh & rate. Let go. Let go. Whatever, whoever & whenever you cannot win and things do not go your way.

Josh Groban is a Jewish American singer. Charming. Popular in classical crossover. He sings and writes songs. Connie Talbot has a voice of an angel. A talent from England. Over The Rainbow.

I made a big purchase in the Great. Van & A had dinner with me at home. Talked to Min over IDD. I can hardly find today not a day of gains.

Justina had lunch with me. She brought me a stone from Canada - amethyst.

that is the story of life - ups & downs

Meg is a fan of Nuri Vittachi, too.

I shared a bowl of eel rice with Ju. It was not fresh and smelled fishy. We were foolish to have finished it. We should return it or buy another item. Tummy not feeling well. Perhaps due to anxieties.

Bought a silver finger-ring. It has set a heart made of mother of pearl.

IDD Min & Lorraine.

fighting battles of some kind

Everybody is fighting battles of some kind everyday.

What does not kill us makes us stronger.

I was nervous today when the tel rang thrice at the wrong time. That is the disadvantage of having a toilet in your office.

Dined with Marga at her home with Porpor.

Gave Van a sapphire finger-ring set with white gold and with 2 tiny diamonds on the sides of the main stone. She likes it.

Where is God?

Life is full of problems, pains and sufferings. Mankind is born with ill nature - jealousy, malice, anger, greed .................. Men kill each other, pressurize each other and step on each other.

Illnesses, viruses, tsunami, earthquake ...................

Sometimes, honest people are fools and the wicked win more easily.

We are never allowed one minute's peace. While we have survived one disaster, another is at the door. After we have overcome some terror, another blow is just awaiting.

When can we rest? We are created with all sorts of weaknesses, limitations ............... Temptations and sins are twins haunting. What can man do? Nothing. Hemingway had his wisdom, though hsi wisdom brought him to suicide. We die anyway. But before that, we have to go through numerous tortures.

Do we live just to fit in a script? None of the characters in the script can escape the torment. Some more, some less.

a call and Skype at the same time

The tel rang at about 11 pm last night. At the same time, Min kept typing on the Skype and expected my replies.

Min has grown up a lot. She is clever and tough. I was happy to talk to her over lots of things in life. She also told me quite a lot about her friends and school-mates. A mini community with a model of human nature and activities that she will face for the rest of her life. Wish her good luck! We also need. But she said she would need a bit more.

Marga is exhausted by work.

Gungung, Porpor, Mike and the boys. All have problems of various nature.

Min wonders what U she would enter and what subject she would pick that could bring along satisfaction to me. She is answerable to her Mom's wish. But she is not sure whether her capabilities can match. As long as she cares, as long as she manages, I can impose no terms on her.

Up to this minute, I still find life a puzzle. A Big Puzzle!

who doesn't have a cross to carry?

Life is full of battles. Fight hard everyday.

Wipe our tears and stand up again if we fall sometimes.

In between, sit back and relax and give yourself a treat.

:)

Sun shines after rain. And the beautfiul rainbow only appears after rain. Life is a game not easy to play. At least, not for me.

doing exercises

I miss the hot springs in Kyushu.

Mother & girl. Friends. All soaked in the hot "soup".

What would be the right exercises for me?

How should I tune my life pattern after Van has set up a home of her own.

Aging.

Who are my companions at my old age?

Elton John

The Rocket Man Tour - Asiaworld - Arena.

Charisma. A big treat. Internationl stage performance.

We had one minute silence of condolence for the quake victims in Sichuan.

Monday, May 19, 2008

3 minutes of silence

Flags flying at half masts ...................

Silence for 3 minutes .....................

sichuan earthquake

May God have mercy:

Let the dead rest in peace;

Let the survived have courage to live on;

Let the broken hearts be mended;

Let the collapsed houses be rebuilt.

Saturday again?

Time flies. Can't imagine it is Saturday again. What have transpired since I went to Su's place.

Irene treated me to Man Ho on Thursday as the young couple flew to Taipei for wedding photos. She is trendy and sweet. She bought me a Furla wallet during her trip by cruise. Really enjoying life. Purplish blue. She also bought a bottle of Chanel perfume for Van and a soup book from Wong Suk-yee for her. Van is lucky. Me, too.

We had lunch at Ye Shanghai - Meg & Ju. I like the fried cod with deep-fried crushed bean paste most.

When Wenxi reads my blog, he finds that all the recordings of life is lunch, dinner and shopping or movies. He told Lorraine that Auntie is having a very luxurious and leisurely time with many rich friends. Hahaha! Sounds great. I like it.

Min asked me to make doantion to the Sichuan victims. So I did.

I will bring Mom to lunch later. Papa is receiving treatment in Haven of Hope. Talked to him last night over the phone. He may be discharged in a few days' time. He is a brave man.

Van msg me last night. She is fine.

Perhaps keep working is the best choice for me. To be single and remain happy, maintain a group of friends without dragging into gossips, attain good work without getting exhaustion ......................... My ambition for the future years! And to have fine skin, reasonable weight, sweet dreams, winnings at mj games frequently and more travelling with nice companions ..............................

cioppino in dan ryan

Had dinner with Van last evening.

A busy day, as usual.

Looking forward to seeing Elton John's show on 20/5. He is a great friend of the late Princess Diana. He has been married to another man.

Denise is nice, in her unique way.

Min sounds cheerful. Glad to read her messages.

"I want to hear your voice." What could that mean? A fine sunny day with breezes, strolling along Austin Road, outside Kowloon Cricket Club, memories of having 2 or 3 lunches there, with sentiments not yet defined ......................

blogs

I had pingpong yesterday. I slept until 10:30 am. How long have I slept until 10:30 am. What a luxury!

Then, I strolled around in Causeway Bay. We had lunch together. Then, we bought 20 more cards from Kee Wah to be distributed to some whom we have not invited to the Wedding Dinner.

I had my hair trimmed in a salon new to me.

I joined Marga at TST for the shoes made to order. Mine is too tight. They will make another pair for me. Mom's is a bit exact. But she accepted it. Min's are too small also. I will bring them back to the shop to see what could be done. Not satisfactory. But Marga finds hers OK.

Dinner at Porpor's home. Presented Peter & Linda the invitation cards. Linda is a sweet girl. Stella is in Beijing with Mayee and her family. Peter asked me to accept not every child's potential and limitation are the same and give Min her due credit.

Min tel to send greetings. Talked to her over Skype later. She seems to be working hard. Told her about "The other Boleyn girl". She wants to see it as well. Perhaps she will look for the DVD.

Reported on newspapers that some children or young people wrote on their blogs and expressed their wish to die. In the end, a few of them really committed suicide a short time after that. What could the Police or SWD do? What could parents or teachers do?

su has retired

Su is enjoying her pre-retirement leave. Garbie is her mate. She walks and talks with Garbie and spends so much time & attention to her.

We played a new version of mj game with wild cards. Lost again.

I gave the CJ shoulder bag to Porpor.

Mother's Day commences now.

They will treat me with wagyu beef for lunch after the pingpong session.

the other boleyn girl

A busy day.

Roger treated us with a lunch in Chiuchow Garden. So delicious. He is rich. E was very emotional. She was much pressurized by work. Perhaps crying would do her good. Some ventilation.

After work, I went to see the movie at AMC with Meg & Sal.

This is entertainment.

All men are alike. All men with power are alike. No difference between Chinese men and Englishmen.

Sailor is working in the sea. Offshore so often.

I will go to Rose Street to play mj tomorrow. Long time no see Su & Miranda.

i am old, they are young

I belong to the older generation. They (many many) are young.

I have to tune myself to understand them more and accept.

A number of my team-mates are leaving in 2-3 years' time. So I either get rejuvenated or remain calm handling the young guys with thoughts and behaviour quite differnt from mine.

I was shocked and upset when I read the news about the young man killed in the car accident in China. Brilliant, with ideals and a kind heart turning into charitable acts, died so young and unexpected.

I was amused by reading about the HKU girl who demonstrated during the Torch relay and showed her t-back while pulled away by the Police.

The world is lovely, after all. Min said all the people around me are nice guys - at least all those whom she has encountered. She said I should have no cause to complain. She is simple & innocent. It is a blessing. Will she like the pearl necklace?

Ber is forever mature and sensible. She was my little mother when we studied in the secondary school. She still is. She told me to note so many things for the event. I cannot afford to lose this friend.

hot spring in Beppu

It is the most luxurious gift ever received for Mother's Day.

We took Dragon Air and flew to Fukuoka. First day & night in Hotel Centraza Hakata. Half a block away from the subway. We had wagyu beef for dinner. Wa means Japanese and gyu means cattle. There are Japanese black, Japanese brown, Japanese polled and Japanese shorthorn. Kobe beef with unsaturated fat. Best to go with sake.
Green tea for us is equally good.

I bought 2 packs of Ringl.

For the 2nd & 3rd day, we stayed in Seikai, a resort hotel in Beppfu (University) station. Private hot spring in the balcony. Japanese style room. I went down to the indoor and outdoor hot springs down in the lobby for 2 times. It is the first time I enjoyed a traditional Japanese hot spring. Carefree, so close to the ocean. Nature is wonderful. I felt very light after the bath. Light-hearted too. The resort hotel demonstrated what should be hospitality. More than hotel management. Van paid $6,000 for the hospitality for 48 hours.

We spent some time strolling and doing nothing in a park, in a cafe or in a shopping arcade listening to the band playing music there. 4th & 5th night back in Centraza. So homely. They had bridal collection and Shiseido counter and evening gowns counter.

Ramen, sushi, sashimi and freshly baked buns/muffins. Kirin tea with milk in bottles - special taste tea leaves - so relaxing. Fresh fruits - strawberries, pei pa, peaches, bananas & grapes. Ice cream. We passed by a famous crab restaurant but it was closed down for renovation. What a shame!

On the 5th day, we took JR to Huis Ten Bosch. An imitation of Queen Beatrice's Palace in Halland. Too big. We only got a few hours between 2 JR trains. If I would go again, I would like to stay in a hotel there. It means "House in Forest". Netherlandic.

I had no internet, no mobile and no mj game. I cannot read any books nor newspapers there. Msot of time, I was smiling to people I encountered and used hand signs plus some English words and wrote some Chinese characters. So many fish roes sold in boxes. Dumplings.

Must go again. Who would be going with me next time?

Oh, I nearly forget about the hells in Beppu. We had shampoo in some hotel salon near the subway station there, too.

Resumed work on Tuesday. Piling up ........ Lucky that I had some recharge. I had brought back some dumplings and tiny gift items. Only for a few.

I had lunch with A & T at Yunmei Restaurant. The Japanese Boss is friendly and made us some source with salmon roes for our salad.

Talked to Min over Skype. IDD Pam, too. British people are really reserved. She always keeps a very courteous manner, diction and description of everything. IDD Lorraine as well.

California Grill

Much engaged in work. But that is my source of income. Money is essential for a quality life.

Dinner at home with A & V. A is the quiet and intelligent type that brings along a comfortable company. Not dull, not aggressive. Just warm and safe. Joseph studied in St Joseph's College.

Van & I will go to Kyushu. We have decided to travel light. So only one suitcase. No presents nor new stuff to be bought. Just relax, take some delicious food, spa and enjoying the scenaries.

Suen sent me a bag of wine gums. Chu despatched it. But it seemed to have been lost. He placed in the van on Monday. I did not receive it even by the end of Tuesday. A case for Agatha Christie. No murder involved though.

TUMI is my new favourite

Spent hours in Lane Crawford, both in Pacific Place & Times Squares. Both Friday & Sunday. At the end, I bought a black leather passport wallet with a compartment for ID card and one for bank notes and some for credit cards.

Busy busy day. Running with time.

Interesting to meet a nice guy from Singapore. He said next time when I visit Singapore, he would let me have a tour at his working place. Terrific. A learned and courteous person.

I bought some ham & dumplings from a Shanghainese shop at Causeway Bay.

I will look for more TUMI items.

The article about the girl in Canada is a warning for all parents. Children could be so fragile. Once a parent, the responsibility just never ends. Unless you have no heart ............ Unfortunately, there are some who do not have one!

Min did punting at Cambridge on Saturday.

Su Chong tel for mj game. She will retire after one week.

Sunday, April 27, 2008

Ceremonial Saturday morning

A solemn & happy ceremony. Porpor, Marga & Nita welcomed Andrew & his parents.

So gorgeous. Everything carries a blessing. We all had lunch at Lei Garden, APM. Vanessa was there waiting for us.

Pingpong in the afternoon for one hour in the Club. Enjoyable. Then, I went to Ah Tuen.

V & A brought me to Kowloon City for dinner - Islam food.

Pa found the electic shaver too big. He is not easy to please.

Min was at Cambridge attending a seminar or sth when I IDD her.

Anne was terribly injured. Bette cannot join Van's wedding as it will be Chrys' birthday. Hou has not replied. I will invite Yim.

The gold bangles are very expensive as the price of gold is so high.

Listening to learn & Learning not to worry

Reading again a book for leadership.

To listen intently and with genuine interst. That kind of listening is one of the highest compliments we can pay anyone.

Change causes anxiety. Change causes stress. Every day our lives will be peppered with unpleasant realities of various sorts. Despite our strongest efforts, despite our most creative ideas - some things, some poeple we simply cannot change or control.

For every ailment under the sun
There is a remedy or there is none
If there be one, try to find it
If there be none, never mind it

Hilarious - Nury Vittachi - I am so fond of him now. Just after reading a few articles of his.

My prayer tonight will be: - let me meet more people with the intelligence and sense of humour of vittachi's kind.

A medical appointment this afternoon. My prayer at noon will be: - nothing bad.

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Nury Vittachi

Monday had been a long day. From 4 am till 11 pm. I accompanied Min to the Airport. Virgin Atlantic reimbursed the taxi fare for a single journey. Lunch - grilled fish with rice - my favourite in the Jap restaurant. Dinner at Xiao Nan Guo to celebrate A's birthday. The present was a pingpong racket.

Min arrived Heathrow about 9 pm (HK) and had to wait for a boy for 1 & 1/2 hour. They shared the cab back to Bethany. Parents try every means to ensure their children grow up. Yet, I felt so much at a loss when she waved me good-bye.

On Tuesday, I bought a black leather belt from Dunhill. Van chose it herself. It would be part of the gift pack this coming Saturday. We had dinner together & talked a lot.

Vittachi can be found in Wikipedia. So he is somebody. Born in Ceylon, now living in HK with a wife and 3 adopted children. Quite a humorous character.

Kwong had very rational and organized thoughts re Olympic torch relay incidents linking with Tibet independence.

Thinking of Min.

Nita will take one month's home leave. I must be very lonely then.

the wedding

Happy, excited & comforting. Time flies. It was 1977 that I had my wedding. Lorraine and Jerry will come back to attend the ceremony. Great!

Nowadays, typhoons are named with such strange names that I can never recall them. This typhoon was only up to no 3 signal hoisted. But the black rain has caused lots of chaos in the airport. Min's flight has to be deferred tomorrow at 8 am. That means I have to get up at 4 am , get onto a cab at 5:15 am and arrive the airport before 6 am. Thereafter, I have to go back to the office by the train.

Funny. A friend in Canada recommends me to read the Dissident's Diary in The Standard which is a free circulation in HK. It is a black guy whose name is again difficult to remember. Yea, his opinion column is hilarious. I like reading it. I won't miss to pick up one everyday at Queensway. Entertainment can be free as long as we keep a childlike heart.

bring home a caesar salad with double dressing

That is what Van requested for. Both of them like it. How often will such an order recur?

All kinds of mixed feelings.

Parents wish children to grow up, study for attainments, fall in luv & get married. Wish they will be independent. Van & Min are doing it day by day. But parents lose their job once the children can stand on their own.

My eyes are stressed. So is my body but my heart is full of happiness.

Ella has bought tickets for Elton John on 20/5 at Expo near the Airport. The cheapest tikets for $380.00 each. Quite excited.

75 cases for muffin

I bought a lunch box in the Great - roast chicken with rice. Then I picked up a small box with an attractive photo of a cherry muffin. I kept that for tea after 3 hrs work from 2 to 5 pm.

Wow, the time came. I sat down with relaxation and opened the box. Oh, no muffin, only the white paper case. I examined carefully, a pile of cases. There was written on the box "75 cases for muffin".

That is me. Just like Mr Bean.

Porpor gave a gold necklace to Min.

I am so excited about the trip to Japan and everything .........................

Porpor likes the new Nokia mobile phone.

See if Dr Chan can cure Min's pimples thoroughly. Girls love to be beautiful. Women, too.

I had dinner with Van & Min at Times Square.

Ng Fong-wing had died, aged 68.

The new group worked together effectively & in harmony. Wonderful.

dried organic tomatoes

Lorraine has bought me some dried organic toamtoes and I have bought some dried cranberries.

So many kinds of health food.

Life is so eventful that I could not be less energetic than what I am.

Agnes had her brithday yesterday. It is meaningful to have all sorts of festivals and celebrations.

Min came to have noodles yesterday and she went to Dentist Tam today. She will go to Dr Chan on Thursday and Dr Tong on Friday. Her Mom's bank notes have gone as well.

Min likes the Food in Chiuchow Restaurant.

We had dinner at TOTT's last Saturday. Van is lucky to have encountered such a decent and loving family. I wish her all the best!

I had dinner in Little Italy with Van & Min.

4 days in taipei

5th time in Taipei. Nothing exciting. Just spent a short trip with Min.

Lucky that we could have the return flight in normal schedule. Some flights before us by CX were pbstructed by fogs and were directed to China.

Busy busy - chairing a board for 2 whole weeks.

Able to locate Fei Yu-qing in HK Records, PP.

BA had sent along a bunch of orchids, a box of Belgian chocolates and a tiny card with regards.

Weather is turning hot.

Tuesday, April 01, 2008

busy busy - fully occupied

YM has returned from UK. I like the photo of Corcoran with them. Corcoran is a good old man. He has never been unkind to me for a single minute. I can never find another boss like him. May God bless him!

I had lunch in the canteen on Monday and had noodles in Marriott on Tuesday.

Langham Hotel for Monday dinner.

A sweet reunion with 2 girls together having dinner on Tuesday at home. I bought from Great some sashimi for them. They both enjoyed it.

IDD Pam and we talked like old friends. Asked her to book a cab for Michelle upon her return as Rosa will be taking BA and she Virgin. One T5 & one T3. Maryjane had divorced. Poor Ru & Issy.

Michelle slept the whole day today and had just gone out to join Axelle & Evelyn at Mongkok.

2 days off until Monday. I will go to Taipei with Min from Thursday to Sunday. Agnes has been helpful and booked a taxi for me. She will be working in the library where she belongs.

Sunday, March 30, 2008

Terminal 5 - chaotic

Pingpong at Victoria Park again.

Sunday brunch with Min. Rosa, Axelle & Kitty will be leaving after summer. She has to build up a new social network. Depends on the luck of having what kind of new comers. Her experience with Star & Eagle is precious. She will meet Karin in the afternoon and Axelle in the evening.

I had spent 3 hours at waiting for her yesterday. Mike drove us to the Tung Chung Pier and had a walk at the big big Citygate Arcade. We stayed in the Spaghetti House for a while.

Min came out shortly after 7 pm. The luggage was left behind. She filled in the claim form and awaited for the return of it today. It is a billions' worth internationl airport. How could they be like that?

The suitcase was indeed sent back by noon time. But the red strap was missing.

I bought some skin care products for Min and a local tel card for her use during these 3 weeks. Booked a tour to Taipei fpr 4 days. All tours to Thailand are full.

Dinner at Porpor's place. I gave the green jacket to Marga. She accepts it. I must refrain from buying clothes for the 2 girls. They, like all young people, do not share the same taste. So, I better save my money & money & save the disappointment of being rejected.

Saturday, March 29, 2008

Terminal 5 - i keep my fingers crossed

Pray for Min for a smooth journey by BA.

Lunch at ZEN with a table of 13.

3rd taiji lesson. Quite a slow learner.

Dinner at Old Restaurant, Miramar Shopping Arcade. Suen's birthday. We bought him a Parker ball-pen.

Tension over the chaos and confusion at T5. I don't think I can go to sleep before Min will confirm her check-in in due course.

Friday, March 28, 2008

star & eagle

Never thought that I would spend 3 nights at Marden. What is more, Min will work there for 5 days. She had been serving as a waitress on Wednesday for the whole day until 9 pm. She had also served breakfast on Thursday and tidied the bedrooms. Good for her development.

I had a busy day yesterday. Yet cheerful! Lunch with Van. She is happy.

Pam does not seem to care about money very much. Every time it is me who urges her to send me the bill. May be English people - the educated class is ashamed to talk about money with greed. Disgraceful for them. Always subtle.

It is raining quite heavily this morning. Unusual.

Min has just come back from the boarders dinner - a formal dinner. She wore the black long sleeves + a green skirt and all the blinks blinks. Wore make-up, too. Obvisouly she enjoyed it so much.

Just read from Yahoo that Terminal 5 had a very messy opening. BA suspended all luggage check-in. Passengers waited for 2 and half hrs for retrieval of luggages arriving. Those who departed had to go with hand-carriers only. They could have money back or re-booking. T 1 & T 4 are normal. I don't know how Min's luck go. My Goodness!

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

wang jia sha at Taikooshing Plaza

Lunch at home - congee with pork ribs, mushroom & conpoy. Stir-fried ho-fun with beef & bitter gourd.

Ella & I went to North Point to buy clothes - our long-term entertainment.

Dinner at Wang Jia Sha. Shanghai food has become my favourite recently. Chatted from 6 - 9:30 pm.

She will go to Osaka on Friday with her elder sister & daughter. It is nice to have travelling companions.

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

ma ying jeou has won

Went to Ah Yee in the morning. Lunch at Lippo for Catherine.

Bought a pair of trousers - muddy brown and tight in Admiralty Centre.

Taliana - shampoo & cut. David, May & Helen.

Went to Dentist - Philip. He is as nice as ever.

Dined at home with Nita. Van is working late. Reserved some food for her.

Gungung has returned home from UCH.

Min must be working in Star & Eagle now.

Portofino, Clear Water Bay

Lunch at Po Toi O with Paus.

Went to Second Bay. Then, we passed by the JC Studio. We viewed 2 houses at the Portofino and its Club.

Had tea inside UST.

Visited Gungung in UCH.

Dinner at Porpor's home.

IDD Min at Pam's place. Snowing intermittently. Min sounded cheerful. She said Pam, Tony & Peggy all liked her and said she was the best stdent they ever have. She has got a lovely Mom, they said.

Irene, too, told Van her Mom has talents in literature.

In a world full of hopelessness and pains, the kind words brighten me a bit.

Lorraine will leave tomorrow. I hope Wenbang will like the book by Jeffrey Archer - short stories.

Min has returned to her school. She has a wide network of friends.

nan lian garden & chi lin nunnery

3 sis brought Porpor to tour around in Diamond Hill - Chi Lin and the Hollywood Plaza.

It could be nice that we explore more places within HK for leisurely walks.

Lunch - Thai - not really good.

Pingpong.

Dinner at Porpor's place. Marga fried the big fish heads with red chilli and spring onions - yummy. She learned it from the chef in Miramar.

The dinner last evening in Megabox chiuchow restaurant was not of high standard.

Andrew bought some Chinese mushrooms and Christy bought some bird's nests for Porpor.

Gungung is in UCH.

IDD Min in the Old Vicarage and talked to both Tony & Peggy - the old lady who wrote a book about Marden.

Mug from the Harrod's

Friday - a walk in the Peak with Marga & Lorraine and Pau. Met Fanny & some colleagues of the Paus.

Lunch at Wanchai - a Chinese restaurant too noisy and not up to our standard of hygiene. Will not go again.

3 sis shopped in Sogo - both Causeway Bay and TST.

Dinner - Wu Kong - pig's knuckles in wine, rice with cabbages and ham, soup with ham & bamboo shoots and ham in bun with crispy bean curd sheet.

I like the mug from Harrod's with a red bus: a double-decker and a queue in front of it.

Van is happy. Her ring is very pretty.

Min has started her placement in Star & Eagle. She will say in Pam's house for 4 days.

sis comes home

Glad to talk to Min over Skype last night and she was able to greet Van at mid-night.

Yesterday, Van & A dined at home. I bought a birthday cake for Van - black forest. As she likes truffle chocolate cake, I bought 3 pcs for her as well. We sang a song for her. I like celebration for birthday.

Lorraine came over to have noodles. The trip to India sounds very interesting.

Dinner at KT. Marga bought a strawberry cake from Italian Tomatoes.

Van has gone to Disneyland. No work for this day.

10,000 BC

Tuesday: L16 - set lunch - sea bass.

I went to see movie with Porpor, Jeffrey & Jason at APM Palace. Just for fun. No logic nor proof of history.

Sailor has won the game, time and again.

Van will have a duty visit to China this afternoon.

Monday, March 17, 2008

Hello Monday

Gungung attended the birthday dinner party of Uncle Poon in Mongkok. Nice to meet old friends (really old) and played mahjong and shared their fond memories.

Jeff & Jason have no school. Mak brothers have to take lunch in Porpor's home as no adults are with them during day time.

Shop rentals have arisen everywhere. Many boutiques have to close down.

A lambswool cardigan - grey with coloured dots & stripes. I like it and its price after discount.

AE platinum card has been sending repeated invitations - quite tempting.

sai tso wan walk

Saturday - lunch with Gungung and Porpor at Lei Garden, APM. Gungung is clever and maintains a very good memory. All he wants is our affirmation of his knowledge and analytical power. He deserves it. So we had happy chat.

Bought them 2 CDs.

I had a walk at the recreation ground. Some children were playing baseball while some ran and walked and did exercises. I like the place. Such a relaxation. Just enjoy the fragrance of trees and flowers.

Shopped at Jusco and had dinner with Nita at Kai Tin. The new chiuchow restaurant is not impressive. Very noisy and the food so-so.

Stella & Chrystal worked late.

I found the answers to the puzzle on the internet. The internet world is very large, wide-covering and has been dangerous to some who do not handle things well.

Van came home around 11 pm. We will have lunch together today before I play pingpong in Mongkok and go to Porpor's place afterwards.

min is happy playing squash

Min is playing squash with Wingki again and she is happy. It must be more vigorous than badminton.

We dined last evening - 5 of us. 23 years have slipped away since we first met. Fun to chat with old folks. All mature, friendly and interesting guys.

Today is Friday and it is so quick to have another weekend. The ceremony and the Cheung Chau walk were still fresh in the memory.

When I was asked about my wish list, the first one that popped into my mind was Min.

Thursday, March 13, 2008

min plays squash

I am glad that I am able to provide Min such a good-quality education. I wish she will appreciate and grasp the chance to path her own way in life.

She appeared to enjoy playing squash with Wingki. What an exposure. Can't imagine she could have the same facilities and environment in HK.

Will meet Mong etc this evening in a restaurant in Nathan Hotel. Nice to have everyone around.

Van is excited. We all are. I am grateful for everything! Life is after all a blessing.

van caught a cold

Monday - Van was sick and took leave. Glad to have Sailor back. Noodles for lunch.

Tuesday - Some issues resolved. Set lunch with Meg. Min sent some photos over Skype. A pie, a brownie, a dish of pasta, Dan Brown and Tom Lloyd and her interview with Karin at the Star & Eagle Hotel. She looked great. A young lady wearing a trouser-suit & taking notes in style. She will go to the Careers & University convention at Brighton racecourse on 22 April.

Wednesday - Van is better and very busy. I wrote to Schooledge & Thorpe.

Lorraine will stay in Marga's place. The boys cannot come. What a pity!

Sakura in Cheung Chau

Thursday - no bad news in the medical report, regualr check-ups required. The young doctor was very friendly and told me some details about my illness years before.

Friday - busy in Gascoigne Road for the whole day. Much relieved after everything was finished.

Saturday - lunch at Lee Theatre Plaza with some friends. Then we took a walk in Cheung Chau. At first, we planned to go to Lamma Island. But it sounded attractive to view the cherry blossoms in Cheung Chau. Only a few trees were having flowers. They looked more like peach blossoms. Darker red than what we expected. Those in Japan are lighter in pink and in great abundance. Anyway, it is nice to watch the stalls selling salty fish etc. We also went to Warwick Hotel. The dining rooms were fully booked for banquets. We had dinner in some shop at the side-walk. So romantic. There was a shop selling a swirl of potato chips put through a stick. Young people and tourists were ready to buy and take photos.

Fun and joy scatters everywhere if you have a heart set to it. We examined the B & B. Some looked tidier and cozier.

The pingpong rooms and squash court in Victoria Park are to be used as control rooms for Flowers Exhibition. So we will play in Mongkok for these few weeks. Dinner at Porpor's place.

Sweaty in the afternoon but cool in the evening.

Chat with Min over Skype. She has earned 30 pounds by baby-sitting in Friday evening. The parents of 2 girls aged 10 & 13 had to go to a party. She just stayed in the house for 4-5 hours, watching TV and playing computer games with them. She thought that was easy money. The house is just next to the Head Master's. They drove her back to school afterwards. Just a few minutes' time.

Thursday, March 06, 2008

Fung Shing - Shuntak cuisine

Wednesday - usual group for lunch at Wanchai. Most entertaining by Allan's stories.

Dinner at Sheung Wan near Western Market. The old-fashioned cuisine from Shun Tak. Gone home by taxi as I had spent more than 2 hours standing or walking in the afternoon for recci.

Will have lunch with Van today. Medical appointment in the afternoon. No news is good news, I hope.

Wednesday, March 05, 2008

Rice Paper & Camellia Seed Essence

Monday - we celebrate Tam's birthday in Rice Paper. I like the 2 desserts most. We bought him a pingpong racket. An enjoyable evening.

Tuesday - another birthday celebration at lunch at Chiuchow Garden.
Van & A dined at home with me. Chatted with Min over Skype.

Rosana had kindly bought for me a bottle of Mei Camellia Seed Essence (Pure Wild Red). It is good for the skin.

Sunday, March 02, 2008

Kyushu & Fukuoka

A routine of my Saturday programmes: morning walk with Nita - she is becoming a mate other than a maid.

Went to Flora.

8th Happiness has delicious Taiwanese food. I tried soy-sauced pork and rice, eggplant with sesame sauce and wine-chicken.

Dinner at home. Spent lots of time playing computer mj. So don't blame the youngsters. The fun is there and keeps one ongoing.

Van has bought a book on Hakata & Huis Ten Bosch. I am reading it so to grasp more information.

Anticipation is meaningful. I look forward to seeing Min by the end of March and going to Japan with Van by the end of April. I will pick a scarf with beads and floral patterns made in India - a blue one.

Today: pingpong in the morning; lunch at Times Square with Van & A and dinner at Porpor's home.

* Eventually, I went to Tabla at M/Floor in Prince's Building and selected a pink and cream coloured scarf with embroideries. The shops is selling items from India. I like a dark blue one with strings of silver beads. Too expensive.

Watched the ceremonies in memory of Lydia Shum on TV.

touch wood, things go fine

Min has a placement in Star & Eagle Hotel, Marden, around and after Easter. She went for an interview. So I have to alter the date of her air-ticket again. Done. Never imagined we would be associated with Star & Eagle that close.

She has resumed calmness. We all have mood swings. Mothers are there to support children in all circumstances.

A treat from Boss yesterday. Cool! 2 tables for lunch. I like it, no doubt.

A has decided not to go to Taiwan. Min seems grown-up by voicing her opinion to Van.

Ms Fei Fei Day on 1 June in Vacouver.

Van & I will go to trip by end of April to FuKuoka, Japan for 6 days. She will plan the details but I should read up some materials, too.

Skipped taiji the 2nd class due to a meeting. Trade Unions dinner at Asiania. Met some retirees. Won $48 from mj game and won $50 from lucky draw.

Scarves made from India with enbroidery have a sophisticated style.

a very interesting workshop yesterday

Thankful for being employed and able to benefit from the training provided.

These were learnt yesterday:

"pace & lead", empathy, re-definition of others' behaviour, awareness and avoidance of triggering, physical "get-off".

Talked to Min. She is stressful about school works and exams. I hope this is the natural mood swings and she can settle down with greater confidence later.

Anxieties can be positive if she is alert and and gathers all her efforts to focus so to achieve. Otherwise, her pride is hurt and she keeps feeling withdrawn.

Praying for the best development of this darling fair lady. 2 young people are seriously thinking of working in Taiwan. Me? Must maintain good health & peace of mind. Struggling alone in Kowloon.

Lunch with several retirees these 2 days. All seem well. Nice to have connections with them.

Both Van & I went home unusually early - around 7:30 pm.

Talked to Pam and asked for her assistance to comfort Min. She will talk to Presland tonight. In fact, all 3 of us have problems of our own. Who hasn't?

Min SMS and said that she is feeling better today. She also told Pam that she is generally happy there, just that she is really anxious to attain very good results and it does not seem easy.

4 pcs of cakes to post-celebrate my birthday: carrot cake, cheese cake, tiramisu cup & lemon tart from The Great. They sang the happy birthday song. Wow! So pleasing to my soul. All troubles have to be put aside for some time.

Monday, February 25, 2008

pingpong, liola & porpor's home

Sunday - Pingpong at Victoria Park. Tea with Paus at TST. Nat has left Liola. Dinner at Porpor"s house. Gave Marga the dark green wrapping made in India. She likes it. Min was still in the B&B.

IDD Min this morning at 5:30 am, equivalent to her 9:30 pm. She has returned safely to school, doing homework. Just wish that she will enjoy her school life and have a smooth path for advanced education.

Meeting the whole morning. Lunch upstairs.

Saturday, February 23, 2008

Could not ask for more

It would be very childish for a woman of my age to list out all the parties and gifts. But I am really overjoyed to have everyone and everything attaching so much kindness. The gift I arranged for myself is the trip to Singapore with Porpor.

A Kipling beige bag, a mango mousse cake from Conrad, a L'Occitane bath & shampoo foaming jelly, a box of Godiva chocolates, a February cup & saucer from Royal Doulton, meals in Lei Garden, Man Ho of Marriott and Cafe in Grand Hyatt. Tea in Kai Tin and food from Jusco. Lavender cream and a cake from Zoe. Cards (E or paper), msn and greetings .......... Min's greetings.

As a co-incident, I had a function party on my birthday, too. Another function before it and then another one after it. 1st taiji class fell onto the day also.

I am contented. I promise to be sweeter and more accommodating and maintain good humour.

When I should face difficulties, all these will be the cushions to comfort me and lessen my distress.

Where shall I go next? Vietnam or Japan or Korea? Thailand?

Blood-taking in the morning in UCH. A walk in my darling Sai Cho Wan Playground in the afternoon and dinner at home. First time in the last 10 days.

Congee with fried dough and some Indonesian puddings at Tiong Bahru.

Woke up at 5 am. Too excited, perhaps. Arrived HK airport at 7:30 am. Arrived Singapore at 1:15 pm. Lorraine drove us to her mother-in-law's place to pay her a visit.

Removed the padlock from Porpor's travelling bag. She left the key in HK. My Goodness!

The country has excellent town-planning. We passed a group of cemeteries - Chinese, Muslim and ......

Will go out for dinner for Hai Nan Chicken Rice. Jerry cannot join us. He has functions for the Chinese Uew Year.

Wenjun is a genius. He resolved the puzzles quick & many.

furla beige handbag

My wish is granted.

Had lunch with the regular group at Wanchai. Old timers. Casual chats, Comfortable.

Dined at home with Van. Today is the "Everybody's birthday" in the Lunar New Year.

The continuous cold only occurred 40 years ago. I remember when I was small, the winter was really freezing. People rushed to buy the cotton-padded jackets with silk shells.

Chatted with Min over Skype. She likes her school and her pals. She re-assures me that she is friendly with the folks around.

Pam really likes Min to stay in her house. But the young thinks differently.

Tomorrow is the Valentine's Day. There are flowers sold in Min's school. I asked whether she would receive any from anyone. She said she would not think so. Who will? She said. Sounds pessimistic.

Dined at home with Van. I bought liver sausages/ red sausages and duck legs from Yung Kee.

Many colleagues took leave.

IDD Lorraine. Wenxi knew about the porn scandal but Lorraine heard nothing about it. She is surely too pre-occupied with her work. Poor us!

Min sms to say that she had gone to London to watch "History Boy" which was quite funny. She would watch Ollie's drama tonight. She adores him.

Tuesday, February 05, 2008

CJ7

Many people took leave so the office was sort of quieter than usual.

manageable

Although I am busily engaged by both office works and private arrangements, I find it manageable.

Jap food for lunch. I was too cold and hungry and therefore found the rice very delicious. Even the beancurd soup was so nice.

Dined with Van. She bought 2 catties of liver sausages from Yung Kee.

I hope the Chinese doctor can do Marga good. I got the herb teas for her. Nita will deliver it to Dolly tomorrow. Mutual support is so important.

I went to Fortress to buy a heater but it was out of stock. Same with Kam in Tuen Mun.

No heat in HK. So it is damp and cold.

my hair permed

rbt has closed down cos of high rental upon expiry of tenancy. So no more weekend sago tea.

I have my hair permed in the evening of Saturday. A new look for the Lunar New Year!
