no strings attached

Natalie Portman.

Another film on show by her is Black Swan.

Modern love story for those who are not worried by monies, who can afford to spend their energy chasing about "the real one'.

What is more? In the US, people are enjoying sex, love & romances as something beautiful for the moment - unfettered by the puritan morals. Otherwise, all should be killed by stones thrown at them. Emma in the movie is exactly the American woman who is financially and intellectually independent. She does not believe in love and fears love will hurt. She then lays down ground rules of "no strings attached" for her relationship with Adam to be "sex only". But any woman who is a woman should fall in love. Sex never stands alone for a sweet woman.

thank God for having all of you

Each and every one so endearing around me!

Sushi U, Central

A treat by Van. Anise enjoyed it as much as I did.

Shopping around. I bought 3 boxes of goose liver sausages from Yung Kee - one for Irene and one for Gungung. One for myself.

Figs are nutritious and delicious.

I also bought a box of 6 free range eggs as prodcuts from New Zealand, a pack of 6 Guangxi Lo Hon Gwo and a pack of 4 organic raspberries scones. All from City Super.

So all rich people who can afford to buy all these stuff must live longer than those who cannot?

what women want - a comedy

The one by Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt must be more convincing than by Andy Lau & Gong Li. Could not trace any chemistry of romance between them.

Dim sum with Mama at Lei Gardens. Then movie at Palace APM.

retirees

What do they do?

Move house -
to a bigger flat - to enjoy more space with the lump sum
to a smaller flat - to save expenditure as income much reduced
children get married - no need for that much space

Renovation - spend time/money on making a more comfortable flat

Travel - visit places they never did or revisit those places with fond memories

Do voluntary work - doing charity is rewarding and keeps one meaningfully occupied
and getting new acquaintances

Taiji & Line Dance & Mahjong - keeping body and mind exercises

Movie, Dramas & Reading - cinemas, theatres & libraries or bookstores

Medical check-ups - for themselves & for family members as everybody is aging

Grumbling - about the younger generation not repaying them as they should

Getting lost - no longer holding important positions

Buying plentiful tonic food - must remain alive and healthy

Facial & massage & skin products - to defer the appearance of wrinkles and freckles
- to ease the aching limbs

What else you can think of?

dinner gathering

Many old faces.

Noisy & funny.

ARTE. Spending is enjoyable as long as one can settle the bills in due course.

a day for lovers

a mad mad weekend

Have been playing mahjong for 24 hours on these 2 days. Eating, gambling & blah blah blah loudly. Typical Chinese doings during Lunar New Year! My friends insist this game will defer us from aging and growing stupid & forgetful. Is that true? Or it is simply an escape from this noisy world by making more noises. Inevitably there are conflicts amongst the players, too.

It will be very cold tomorrow. 9 degrees C. What is the meaning of global warming? So confusing.

Valentine's Day is approaching. Sweet time for lovers!

values not issues

"Creating relationships is the most basic tenet, the most basic common denominator. Really strong community organizations are actually based on values, not issues. Issues come and go. That's not to say issues aren't important. Because working on issues is a means by which people can aspire to live their values. But working on issues isn't the only thing you can do. When you create relationships, people have common values."

So I must listen well. What engages people to become involved in something and actually spend their own time, energy, influence, and money, is to feel heard, to actually feel listened to.

baby is cute

I had both lunch and dinner with her. So lovable.

a fairytale

L16 - Kung Hei Fat Choy!

We had a New Year lunch at the HK Park Thai Restaurant.

We had cheerful chats. Just feel secure on any topics because we would not end up in heated arguments nor distrust. We can express freely whatever we like. That is what old friends are for. We admit the younger generation is different from us and we must agree to disagree and we must accept their values in many ways.

Nice to start the first working day in the Year of the Rabbit!

Min has her second semester - one subject is Business Law which she finds interesting.

Remain happy & healthy. Work hard. Take care of yourself and select friends with wisdom.

Van has been playing her various roles very diligently.

staying calm amid storms

"Combine innate self-confidence with an assuredness of one's personal destiny, add the leadership and analytical skills so carefully cultivated by instructions such as Harvard Law School and the University of Chicago, throw in good looks, stirring oratorical talents, and the ability to carefully listen to other people, and you have the makings of a powerhouse."

"He was very respectful, interested, a good listener, wanted to make his points forcefully and articulately when he was ready to, but he was very good at listening to others; he didn't feel he needed to dominate the conversation."

"He had spent the time doing 'inner work'. He had put in the effort to understand his place in the world and out of that effort had developed a powerful sense of equanimity."

Who is he?

Heritage 1881 - fireworks night

Plover Cove

We had a wonderful time cyling in Tai Mei Tuk. Thai food afterwards.
I let go whatever was irritating, unfair and ugly. Between the blue sky and the deep blue sea, I took fresh air and maintained a peaceful mind.
I forgive and ask to be forgiven.

to be my best friend

Dearest Young Lady,

I am so pleased to learn that you wish to be my best friend. Thank you so much even for the thoughts and the endeavours.

To be someone's best friend means you totally understand her, you support her always, you encourage her and you appreciate her. You trust her. You do not tease her when she falls. You do not congratulate yourself when she is victimized and not you. No need to roll up your sleeves nor shout at her rivals. Stay close and listen. Solve her problems if you can. If not, say you know it is difficult. You do not turn sour when she is lucky or when she has her attainments. You do not tell the world or yourself she does not deserve it.

How great to be someone's best friend - and it has to stand the trial of time! Wow. Not even every parent could be the best friend of his/her child. Not even every spouse could be the best friend of the other half. The role of best friend is above any contractual bond coz best friend can disappear any minute. No damages claimed. No identity found.

Your Best Friend,
Mom

John Barry died at 77

Born Free, The Lion in Winter, Out of Africa & Dances with Wolves.

A dozen Bond films: Goldfinger, From Russia with Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Diamonds are Forever, The Man with the Golden Gun, Moonraker, Octopussy, A View to a Kill & The Living Daylights.

I have no impression of his name but how could I miss all his music!

Who could forget "Somewhere in Time"? So incredibly soothing & mesmerizing.

What more? The Magnificent 7 & Midnight Cowboy.
