when illness dominates

Patient is an interesting word. We all know what it means, but most of us get so driven to move forward that little do we care what it means.

It takes a patient to learn what it means to be patient. Because all of a sudden, everything in your life is put on hold and little by little it slows down and down, until it grinds to a halt. Instead of moving forward at your own pace as you will, you are no longer in control of your life, and you just wait patiently for what the doctor tells you what is going to happen to your body and to your life. You can whine all you want, but you know the moment has come that you will do what you are told, and you wait patiently and earnestly to receive your visits from your doctor, your family and your friends.

You also find all the time you want to reflect on how and whether you would and could have lived your life any differently if you were presented a second chance, the time that you never knew you had or would have. And you keep patiently waiting for things, or sometimes, a miracle, to happen.
